Brew Day 02/28/2015 - Last Brew at Butterfield Barleywine
This, the last brew day at Butterfield, was a special one. It had to be. This is where Kyle and I started brewing together a little over two years ago and now... a collective 79 batches later we chose to celebrate the last day Kyle and I would brew together there with one of our favorite brews a barleywine.
The yeast for this beer is an English Dry. We happened to have a starter we obtained from Magnolia in San Francisco but I'm pretty sure it close to WL002 or WL007. You just need something that can attenuate the higher gravity. This one came out at 1.102 or 25.5 Plato. We were shooting for 1.113 not sure where we fell short here its normally right on. Thinking it might have been a scale zeroing issue or perhaps milling. Yet another reason to get our own.
It was a great day to brew - we expected rain but were lucky enough to dodge that bullet.
Check out the link below if you'd like to see our batch log for the day, pre notes.
Our lastest sour is tasting pretty great from the sampling... It needs a few more months to clean up but we wanted to share this odd looking image.
